St Vincents Hospital Student Lounge

St Vincents University Hospital Student Lounge

This project involved the soft demolition strip out and removal of structural wall elements to form an opening to adjoin two proposed new areas. This was a mechanical fit out with traditional building elements such as new concrete floor build up, cavity blockworks wall and a new flat roof. On this project we have formed a close relationship with the estates department as we had interface with the public when tying new work into the live environment of an operating hospital. Temporary measures have been carefully selected to minimise the amount of dust created.

Flynn Management & Contractors researched what techniques have been used in a hospital environment and implemented these techniques. A plastic sheeting system called the quick prop system was used, which is the first line of defense against dust. In addition to the quick prop Flynn Management & Contractors built a temporary stud wall in behind the screen and completely sealed it. This allowed the project to be completed safely in a sensitive hospital environment.
